Miami Dade College Enhances Renowned Gallery Program and Announces 2012-13 Season of Art

Miami, August 15, 2012 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Art Gallery System announces the upcoming 2012-13 season and the transition into the newMDCGalleries of Art + Design and MDC Museum of Art + Design at the college’s National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower. South Florida continues to develop into a major cultural destination and the landscape of downtown Miami, in particular, is experiencing a renewed interest in the arts. MDC’s Museum of Art + Design will establish a permanent public art museum in the heart of this community amid a very exciting artistic awakening.
The new programming will continue enhancing visual arts across the college’s eight campuses, while simultaneously building a world-class museum. Currently, there are more than 1600 works in MDC’s permanent collection. In addition, the MDC Museum of Art + Design will continue to host major exhibitions by world-renowned artists, support the vast local artistic community and provide a platform for MDC’s distinguished students, alumni, faculty, and staff to exhibit their works.
The 2012-13 season opens the first week of September with exhibitions by New York artistElena Sisto and Kansas City-based photographer Jaimie Warren at the Freedom Tower, as well as original works by Italian artist Camilla Ancilotto at MDC Wolfson Campus’ Centre Gallery.
Other season highlights include sketches, original designs and a book presentation by fashion design teamIsabel and Ruben Toledo opening on Nov. 9 at the Freedom Tower; an exhibition at the Kendall Campus, Grant Miller: New Works, starting Friday, Sept. 14; Vladimir Manic paintings at the North Campus starting Friday, Sept. 21; and on Saturday, Dec. 1, MDC once again partners with Galleria Ca D’Oro to present Foreverglades at the Freedom Tower, featuring environmentally-minded public art by European artists Cracking Art Group and William Sweetlove.
