Miami, November 30, 2012 - Miami Dade College (MDC) will host TekFight Entrepreneurship Tournament, a Dojo-inspired conference, at 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. This conference, with a Dojo philosophy, is focused on technology, innovation, thought leadership, and access to resources.

Tournament Rounds focus on key entrepreneurial topics with policy, funding, and innovation leaders. Upon registration and acceptance to the Dojo, each participant will receive a white belt and will have the ability to “belt up” as they take part in the discussions and attend rounds. TekFight has a gamification element; participants who are highly involved via social media streams or onsite as key contributors gain access to special sessions and resources during the day, such as a one-on-one with a high profile thought leader or angel. Individuals are encouraged to participate via these streams in anticipation of the Tournament to belt up faster. The conference is ideal for entrepreneurs, coders, professionals or angels.

Confirmed speakers include Wolfson Campus President Madeline Pumariega, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Matt Haggman of the Knight Foundation and MDC alumnus and president and CEO of Republica, Jorge Plasencia.

“We are proud to support the spirit of entrepreneurship in our community by hosting TekFight at the Wolfson Campus as a kick off to Miami Innovation Week,” said president of the Wolfson Campus, Madeline Pumariega. “It will allow our students to connect with entrepreneurs and explore the various elements of entrepreneurship such innovation, thought leadership and policy.”

TekFight is a movement that brings together individuals from varying backgrounds and disciplines to foster innovation. Through a unique “Dojo” approach all participants involved advance towards a greater entrepreneurial ecosystem. Contribution to and support of the Dojo directly impacts the participants’ ability to gain access to transformative resources.
