Dr. Yossi Sheffi, Professor of Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Miami, February 21, 2013 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business Leadership Speaker Series presents Dr. Yossi Sheffi, renowned professor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT, Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 5:30 p.m., Room 2106, at the Wolfson Campus.  Dr. Sheffi serves as the Director of the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics, and is an expert in systems optimization, risk analysis, and supply chain management, which are the subjects he teaches and researches at MIT.

Professor Sheffi is the author of many scientific publications and three books.  In his latest work, Logistics Clusters: Delivering Value and Driving Growth, he explores logistics clusters – geographically-concentrated sets of logistics-related business activities – and explains why some locations have been successful in developing these clusters while others have not.  He also argues for the most important advantage offered by logistics clusters in today’s recession-plagued economy: jobs and economic growth. He also cites that the clusters promote social justice by contributing to upward mobility and promoting environmental responsibility.
