MDC’s Miami International Film Festival Co-Presents Filly Brown Film

Filly Brown film 1

Miami, April 2, 2013 - In collaboration with Hispanicize 2013 and Pantelion Films, Miami Dade College’s Miami International Film Festival will present a screening of the film Filly Brown at 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at Regal Cinemas South Beach. Actors Edward James Olmos, Lou Diamond Phillips and directors Youssef Delara and Michael Olmos will attend the screening.

Filly Brown features an exceptional cast, including Lou Diamond Phillips, Edward James Olmos and the late legendary musician Jenni Rivera in her final on-screen performance. Fueled by a fierce hip-hop score, the film also heralds the arrival of Gina Rodriguez in the electrifying title role as Filly Brown, a young Los Angeles hip-hop artist who percolates with the raw energy of hope sprung from desperation. When a shady record producer offers her an opportunity at rap stardom, she faces some daunting choices. A record contract could be the ticket out for her struggling family. But taking the deal means selling out her talent and true friends.
