Students are excited about the opportunity to work with MDC North Campus President Dr. Jose Vicente.

Miami, April 25, 2013 - In an effort to take its fundraising for the United Way to new heights, Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus decided to do something bold and daring. It boosted raffle sales, by giving faculty and staff a chance to trade roles with the campus president and other high level administrators.

“It’s important to walk in a fellow colleague’s shoes to get a thorough sense of everything that is done and offered at MDC,” said English professor Lisa Shaw, who organized the fundraiser.

MDC is an innovative college with cutting edge programs and faculty committed to enhancing the overall learning experience.

As part of the role exchange, MDC North Campus President Dr. Jose Vicente will lecture a class in the English and Communications Department on Friday, April 19. Dr. Vicente, a seasoned educator, will critique student presentations and provide guidance on using Aristotle’s prescription of “ethos, pathos and logos” to reach their audience. Students are excited about the opportunity to work with him. In exchange, Professor Isabel Del Pino Allen will serve as acting campus president for three hours and promised colleagues that she will make an impact during her short tenure.

Among other role swaps, the campus director of administration will serve as a computer technician; the dean of the School of Science will teach humanities classes; and the campus’ chief information officer will work a shift at the renowned funeral services education program. Additionally, the campus’ Dean of Students Malou Harrison will serve as director of the School of Justice. Academic Dean Dr. Mattie Roig-Watnik will also trade places with criminal justice professor Miriam Lorenzo.

The effort has raised nearly $1,000 in additional funding for the United Way.
