Miami Dade College’s North Campus to Host Sept. 11 Memorial Dedication

US Flag L

Miami, August 13, 2013 - Miami Dade College’s(MDC) North Campus will remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a special ceremony at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11. The College, which previously received two steel artifacts from the World Trade Center (WTC), will reveal their new, permanent homes.

"As North Campus joins our nation in such an important commemoration, our new steel artifacts installation will serve as a poignant and lasting symbol of honor and respect for humanity," said Malou Harrison, interim president for North Campus.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey donated the two steel beams to MDC in 2011. The College is the only higher-education institution in Florida to have received these important relics from the WTC.

The North Campus is an appropriate site for these memorials, given the campus is home to the School of Justice, which serves as the premier provider of public safety education in the community. More than 80% of the county’s first responders are graduates of MDC.

The community at large and working media are invited to attend this free event.
