Miami, December 9, 2013 -
Miami Dade College’s(MDC) professor of architecture Mario F. Ortega took home top honors from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Miami Chapter during the organization’s 59th Annual AIA Miami Design Awards Gala + Student Exhibition.
No stranger to accolades, Ortega was once again presented with the Award for Writing about Architecture for his publication of the Miami Dade College Europe-Russia Architecture Study Abroad Program Book. Previous honors include his 2009 documentation of the College’s first volume of architectural student work, theMiami Dade College Architecture Student Journal: A Gathering of Architecture Student Projects and the Institute’s Education Leadership Award in 2008. The only other MDC beneficiary of such a prestigious recognition was MDC President Dr. Eduardo J. Padron, recipient of the AIA’s Miami Chapter Community Leadership Award, IN 2007.
“It was a great honor to be recognized by the AIA and architecture community for my work completed through the support of Miami Dade College,” said Ortega. “This would have not been possible without the hard work and dedication of my students and the success of my architecture study abroad program.”
Each year, the AIA Miami Chapter recognizes contributions in design, construction, and public service related to architecture, the building arts and urban design from those in the professional community whose merits have been outstanding.
