Miami, February 20, 2014 - Students from the Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) at Miami Dade College (MDC) once again showed off their skills and professionalism at this year’s Coconut Grove Arts Festival. Bringing great pride and honor to the college, MCI students assisted some of the best chefs, restaurants and hotels from South Florida.

Activities were held in the festival’s popular Culinary Pavilion. The highlight of the weekend’s cooking demonstrations came from MCI culinary student Monica Izquierdo with her artisan bread presentation. MCI students assisted with all of the demonstrations over the three-day event, including the demonstration by MCI Chair Chef Collen Engle.

Building on MDC’s rich legacy of professional development, students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. The prestigious art festival is one of the many events where MCI students receive real-world exposure and experience in their prospective fields.

MCI students were privileged to mingle among the likes of Chef Giorgio Rapicavoli of Eating House and winner of TV’s Chopped and the prestigious Iron Fork competitions; Executive Chef Oscar del Rivero of Talavera Restaurant, Jaguar Ceviche and Peacock Garden Café; Chef Ramesh Kaduru, executive chef of the Ritz Carlton Coconut Grove; and Chef Christopher Cramer, executive chef, Panorama Restaurant & Sky Lounge, Sonesta Bayfront Hotel.
