Miami Dade College Sharks Men’s Basketball Defeat Palm Beach State to become 2014 Southern Conference Runner-up and Qualify for FCSAA State Tournament


Miami, March 4, 2014 - Despite multiple injuries, Miami Dade College (MDC) Sharks men’s basketball team fought hard to defeat Palm Beach State on Feb. 22 and qualify for the Florida College Systems Activities Association (FCSAA) State Tournament, held March 5-9 in Ocala. The Sharks won the game 76-51 with sophomore Tre Boutilier leading the team with a double-double 23 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Darius Perkins with 22 points, six rebounds, and four steals. The team was named Southern Conference Runner-Up.

Sharks will go up against other state schools at the state tournament and hope to make it to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament March 17-22, in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Sharks not only finished the regular season with an overall record of 21-9 but they also maintained their NJCAA team national rankings. They are ranked 6th in the nation in three-pointers made, 22nd in assist per game, and 43rd in offensive rebounds per game.
