MDC’s Tower Theatre to Present Cuban Film, Pablo, May 16

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Tower Theatre will host the Miami premiere of the Cuban film, Pablo, Thursday, May 16, at 9:15 p.m. The film is a disturbing look into domestic violence, prostitution, and drugs, on the island.

Miami Dade College North Campus to Host Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Ready to Lead Student Conference

Miami Dade College (MDC) is looking to inspire high school students to continue their education. North Campus will play host to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) college readiness program, Ready to Lead (R2L), Saturday, May 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Actor Wilmer Valderrama will address the attendees.

A Miami Dade College (MDC) springtime tradition returns as the Kendall Campus presents its annual Belly Dance Show, Arabia, A Journey Through Dance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

Miami Dade College, in collaboration with the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba, to Commemorate Cuba’s Independence Day May 20 with a Special Conversation with the Ladies in White

Miami Dade College (MDC), in collaboration with the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba, will celebrate Cuban Independence Day, Monday, May 20, with a conversation with the Ladies in White, represented by the leader of the famed dissident group, Berta Soler. Miami’s own Gloria Estefan, who led a March in honor of the Ladies in White in Miami in 2010, will also speak. Hundreds of community leaders, students, and residents of Miami are expected to attend this unprecedented event. Other relevant members of the peaceful movement, as well as prominent Cuban dissidents and winners of the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, are also expected to attend. The Conversation with the Ladies in White is scheduled to take place at MDC’s National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower at 11:30 a.m., preceded by a press conference from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The public is encouraged to dress in white for the occasion, in solidarity with these brave Cuban women.

MDC Museum of Art + Design Opens Summer Exhibition Season with New Exhibits by The Miami Herald Photographers and Recent Works by Yovani Bauta

The Miami Dade College (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOAD) will present two new exhibitions opening on June 7, at the Museum located within MDC’s historic Freedom Tower in downtown Miami. The multi-media photography exhibit FLASHBACK: Miami 1980s and Invisible Presence: Recent works by Yovani Bauta, inaugurate the Museum’s summer season. An opening reception will be held Friday, June 7, at 6 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art + Design Presents its "Fantastical" Exhibition, A Poetic Reality: Magical Realism of the CINTAS Fellows Collection, June 7

The Miami Dade College (MDC) Museum of Art + Design will present A Poetic Reality: Magical Realism of the CINTAS Fellows Collection. Stewards of the collection since 2011, the Museum is located within the College’s historic Freedom Tower. A Poetic Reality opens Friday, June 7 with a public reception at 6 p.m. The exhibition will remain on display through Sept. 21, Wednesday to Sunday, from noon to 5 pm. It is free and open to the public.
