The Arts and Philosophy Department at Miami Dade College (MDC) begins the 17th season of its highly-anticipated jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Wolfson Campus. The monthly concerts run from Sept. - April and are free and open to the public.

If you’ve ever read books that made you turn in your seat because of its offensive language, violence, or sexually-explicit undertones, chances are those published works made it to the American Library Association’s (ALA) list of challenged books. In an effort to do its part to curb censorship, Miami Dade College (MDC) will celebrate Banned Books Week Sept. 21 – 27, to highlight the value of free and open access to information. One of the events, presented by the Learning Resources Department, will take place at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Kendall Campus. Professor Michel De Benedictis will deliver a lecture on the checkered past of literary censorship and the authors who dared defy it. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to participate in this free event.

The Honors College at Miami Dade College (MDC) will officially welcome a new class of outstanding students with an Induction Ceremony, a time-honored tradition, at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the historic Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in the heart of downtown Miami. This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Kerry Healey, Babson College president.

Miami Dade College (MDC) will illuminate its National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower blue on Saturday, Oct. 4, in support of the National Parkinson Foundation’s (NPF) Moving Day® Miami, a fundraising walk for Parkinson’s disease. The Freedom Tower will be illuminated at sunset.
