Miami International Film Festival, A Program of Miami Dade College’s MDCulture, Announces Park Grove As The New Shorts Competition Sponsor With $2,500 Award

Looking ahead to its 32nd edition, Miami International Film Festival (MiamiFF) is delighted to announce luxury developers Terra Group and The Related Group as sponsors of this year's Shorts Competition in the name of their upcoming Park Grove condominium partnership. Miami Dade College (MDC) nursing professor Dr. Marie O. Etienne has been appointed the International Nurse Consultant for the National Nursing Committee of the American Red Cross. The Museum of Art + Design (MOAD) at Miami Dade College (MDC) presents Cuba Out of Cuba: Through the Lens of Alexis Rodriguez-Duarte in Collaboration with Tico Torres. The inaugural exhibition will open to the public at 6 p.m. Friday, September 19, at the new Cultural Legacy Gallery, a permanent space dedicated to the impact of Cuban culture on South Florida and throughout the world, housed at the National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College in Downtown Miami. Cuba Out of Cuba: Through the lens of Alexis Rodriguez-Duarte in collaboration with Tico Torres features what have become iconic photographs of Cuban figures living outside the island, among them performers, composers, designers, writers and artists. The Cuba Out of Cuba series was shot over the last twenty years in Miami, New York, London, Paris, Florence, Venice and Los Angeles. The exhibition will take a unique and historical approach in surveying the legacies of individuals such as Celia Cruz, Bebo Valdez, Gloria Estefan, Cristina Saralegui, Andy Garcia, Cundo Bermudez, Nilo Cruz, and Paquito d’Rivera, among other Cubans who have influenced the greater culture of their time.

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOAD) and MDC Live Arts will present Shen Wei - In Black, White and Gray, the artist’s first museum exhibition in the U.S. combining Shen Wei’s award-winning choreography with a groundbreaking new series of large-scale works to be unveiled during Art Basel Miami Beach 2014 at the MDC’s Historic Freedom Tower in downtown Miami. Miami Dade College’s Physician Assistant Students Bring Home Grand Prize in National Competition

A team of Miami Dade College (MDC) Physician Assistant (PA) students has won the collegiate National Championship in the National Challenge Bowl Competition. The competition is sponsored by the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the national organization that represents the physician assistant profession across the U.S, and occurred as part of the American Academy of Physician Assistants Annual Conference in Boston. The players engaged in a Jeopardy-style game, answering multiple-choice questions.

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) men’s’ basketball team has kicked off its Third Annual High School Spring League and is now gearing up for finals, which take place May 6, 13 and 14 in the Kendall Campus Gymnasium (Building G). The five-week league is comprised of 12 high school teams from throughout South Florida that square off for eight games before entering the playoffs. Miami Dade College Students Win Top Prize at Local Professional Trade Show

Three Miami Dade College (MDC) Kendall Campus students from Associate Professor Senior Marcia Lopes de Mello’s Interior Design 4 studio took home all three awards recently at the IIDA – International Interior Design Association SunCon Student Challenge for designing an eco-friendly reception and waiting room of a pediatric oncology outpatient clinic. Sophomores Cynthia Rondon, the first-place winner, was awarded $1000 and an iPad; Karine Mompremier and Nicole Tenhagen won honorable mentions for their creations, along with an iPad. The interior design students beat out competitors from six other Florida schools. This is the first time that MDC School of Architecture and Interior Design students participate.

MDC’s Teatro Prometeo Presents Lección para señoritas

Teatro Prometeo at Miami Dade College (MDC), one of the major success stories in Miami's theatrical history and the only Spanish-language conservatory in the country, will present Lección para señoritas March 20-22 and 27-29. Set in a cabaret in the Roaring 20s, Lección para señoritas is a modern version of renowned play, The School for Wives, written by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin Moliere (Paris, 1622 - 1673). This performance is adapted and directed by actress/director Neher Jacqueline Briceño and is part of the new repertory of plays at Teatro Prometeo.

This year’s commemoration will honor the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s signing of the Civil Rights Act. Don’t miss the last sessions of Enroll America informational workshops on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) offered on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall, North and Wolfson Campuses. AT&T Awards Miami Dade College $50,000 Contribution to Expand Pre-College Advisement Program to 10 Miami High Schools

Join MDC Live Arts and the National Theatre of Scotland for Theatre That Unfolds Around You

Pull up a chair and wet your whistle for an evening of anarchic theater, live music and strange goings-on as Miami Dade College’s (MDC) MDC Live Arts takes the theater into a favorite Miami destination: the bar. A runaway hit of the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe, National Theatre of Scotland’s The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart immerses audiences in a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience. The show is filled with rhyming couplets, whiskey shots and wittily wild karaoke as Prudencia’s story unfolds among and around them. This story of love, music and the Devil takes up residence for six performances at Bar 337 (formerly PAX), a bar at the intersection of Little Havana and Brickell from Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Sunday, Feb. 23.

Miami Dade College Medical Campus’ Massage Therapy Vocational Credit Program in Spanish to Launch Jan. 21

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Medical Campus will now offer its acclaimed Massage Therapy Vocational Credit Program in Spanish, starting January 21. The new Spanish Curriculum Option is a full-time, two-semester course of study requiring 25 vocational credits (750 hours) with classes available in the evenings and on weekends.

Alberto Silva of Miami Dade College’s InterAmerican Campus Accepted to Harvard University’s Prestigious Leadership Conference

Miami Dade College (MDC) InterAmerican Campus student Alberto Silva, a Political Science major, has been accepted to the 14th Annual Public Policy and Leadership Conference at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Silva, also a former student of MDC’s Accelerated Content-based English program (Project ACE), was among only 45 students selected from more than 500 applications to the program, which will take place in Cambridge, Mass. from Feb. 20 - 23.
