The Center @ MDC is Giving Away Copies of How Rocket Learned to Read

The acclaimed Center for Literature and Theatre @ Miami Dade College (MDC) has announced that parents and guardians of children ages 4-7 can request a copy of the picture book, How Rocket Learned to Read, by visiting the Center website and joining the Generation Genius Reads Club. Miami Dade College’s Medical Campus Receives State Farm Youth Advisory Grant

Miami Dade College Receives $120,000 Grant from Health Foundation of South Florida

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Foundation recently announced it has received a $120,000 grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida to support the Medical Campus’ Dental Hygiene Program. Miami Dade College Recent Graduates Awarded with Prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship to Continue their Studies

Four Miami Dade College (MDC) recent graduates were awarded the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship to continue their education at a four-year college or university. The four MDC alumni – all whom received their associate’s degree at commencement ceremonies held this past Saturday, April 28 – will each receive $30,000 per year to cover their educational costs, including tuition, books, required fees, and living expenses, for the final two to three years necessary to attain a bachelor’s degree. MDC's Hospitality Institute Hosts Community Job Readiness Training Program and Job Fair March 6-9, 2012

As part of its commitment to providing hospitality and service skills training and job search resources to the residents of Miami’s inner city neighborhoods, the Hospitality Institute at Miami Dade College (MDC) will once again host a four-day Hospitality Job Readiness Training Program and Job Fair March 6 – 9, located at the Greater Bethel A.M.E Church in downtown Miami. There is no cost for the training and job fair, and it is open to residents of downtown Miami, Overtown, Liberty City and surrounding areas.

29th Annual Miami International Film Festival Presents Florida Premiere of Documentary Pelotero – About Two Teenage Dominican Baseball Players Chasing Major League Dreams

For many boys growing up in Dominican Republic slums, baseball is their ticket out of poverty. That is the story of Pelotero, a documentary about two talented teenage baseball players confronting competition and corruption to reach the Major Leagues. The film will have its Florida premiere at the 29th Annual Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College (MDC) at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 3, at Regal South Beach cinema.

MDC’s School of Business to Offer Free Workshops for Business Owners and Potential Start-Ups

This spring, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed School of Business will offer free workshops to small and moderate size businesses in Allapattah, Overtown, downtown Miami and surrounding areas, as well as specific areas of Miami Beach as part of its Small Business Education Program sponsored by Citi Foundation. Miami Dade College Welcomes New Softball Head Coach

The Miami Dade College (MDC) Department of Athletics has hired Gina De Aguero as head coach of its women’s softball team. An MDC alumna and a former member of the Lady Sharks softball team, De Aguero earned an Associate in Arts degree in Education in 1999 and later transferred to St. Thomas University to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies in Secondary Education in 2003.
