2008 Southern Conference Champions!

Congratulations to the MDC Sharks Baseball Team: Southern Conference Championship!!

The Sharks finish regular season play with a team record of 42-10, 18-7 in conference. The Sharks are currently ranked 2nd in the State, 8th in the Nation, and will be competing in the State Championship Tournament, May 9-13, 2008 in Lakeland, Florida.

Miami Dade College has a long and prosperous history in baseball. Miami Dade Teams have captured 19 Southern Conference Titles, four FCCAA State Championships, and have partiticapted in the NJCAA JUCO World Series on four occasions, most recently in 2001. Miami Dade has also won two NJCAA National Championships in 1964 and 1981.

The Miami Dade baseball program has produced countless Major League Baseball standouts, including 2007 American League All-Star second baseman Placido Polanco, All-Stars Mike Piazza, Bucky Dent, Steve Carlton and Mickey Rivers, Golden Spikes Award winner Alex Fernandez, as well as Jamie Navarro, John Cangelosi, Orlando Palmeiro, Raul Ibanez, Kiko Calero and Alex Sanchez. Over 400 Miami Dade baseball standouts have been signed with professional baseball, while 57 have reached the Major Leagues, the most representation in the Majors from any college or university in the country except for the University of Southern California.
