Your Journey Starts Here

Honors College students are selected from a competitive process that includes an online application, letters of recommendation, official test scores, writing samples, and possibly an interview. The online application will open October 1, 2016. The early decision application deadline for admission for the 2017-2018 academic year is February 1, 2017 and the final deadline is April 1, 2017.

You must submit a Miami Dade College application before you can apply to The Honors College. Choose the option that is right for you:

  • First time applicants to Miami Dade College apply here
  • If you have already applied to Miami Dade College and you know your MDC ID number, go directly to The Honors College eligibility questions in Step 3.
  • If you recently applied to Miami Dade College and you don't know your MDC ID number, check the status of your application. If it has been issued, you will find it there.

If you are a first time applicant to Miami Dade College you will have to wait for the college to give you an MDC ID number. There are several possibilities after you submit the MDC application:

  • The system may generate an MDC ID automatically
  • If it does not provide the number automatically, you will have to wait until the system completes the process to determine if you are eligible for one. Additional information may be required. Check the status of your application to Miami Dade College twenty-four (24) hours after submitting it for further instructions.
  • If you have a duplicate record in the system, this will further delay the Miami Dade College application process. Try to use the same information used in the original MDC application previously filed to expedite this step.

Should you have any questions about your Miami Dade College application, MDC ID number or accessing your MYMDC account please contact technical support. We also invite you to contact The Honors College if you need any further assistance or call 305-237-7077.

The Honors College reviews all applicants with balanced consideration. We believe there are multiple ways for applicants to demonstrate suitability as MDC Honors students. Applicants are evaluated on the entirety of their background, personal qualities, academic preparation and life experience. However, at a minimum, all applicants must demonstrate the ability to be college ready through standardized test scores and grade point average (GPA). Please review the admissions criteria below to determine eligibility.

Admissions Criteria
  1. Only first time in college applicants are eligible. This means that at the time of application, the applicant has not earned any college credit except for dual enrollment.
  2. The minimum preferred GPA is a 3.7 either weighted or unweighted. If GPA is below a 3.7, in order to be considered, test scores must satisfy both the MDC College Ready requirements AND the additional test score requirements described below.
  3. All applicants must be college ready pursuant to Miami Dade College’s standards as described in the chart below. Multiple test scores may be submitted from the ACT, SAT, and PERT to satisfy this requirement. The admissions committee will superscore, which means they will consider the highest score achieved in each test. Only test scores from the last two years before the final application deadline will be reviewed.
