The
Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree in Child Development and Education
(Program 27014) is designed to provide students with training
for employment opportunities in the field of Early Childhood Education.
These employment opportunities include working with young children
in pre-kindergarten programs, preschool programs, child care centers,
family child care homes, Head Start centers, and public and private
programs for young children. |

The
Child Development and Education Program is a degree program leading
to an Associate in Science Degree after the completion of sixty-three
(63) academics credits. The requirements for the Child Development
Associate (CDA) Equivalency Credential are included within the program.
The
Early Childhood courses combine classroom instruction and field
work experience with an emphasis on developmentally appropriate
programming for young children. Selected early childhood centers
and public school pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms
are used for field experience sites. Two of the MDC campuses have
lab schools where you can satisfy your required field experience:
the pre-school labs are located at the North and Wolfson campuses. |

specific degree requirements are listed on the Child Development
and Education advisement sheet. Students completing the course
requirements for this degree will also receive the
Associate
in Arts (AA) Degree in Teaching Pre-Elementary
(Program 10809).
