Credit Programs

Miami Dade College offers more than 150 academic programs leading to the Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.), Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.) (in several fields), Bachelor of Applied Science (in criminal justice), as well as numerous certificates. Also, high school students with a strong academic background may apply to be part of our prestigious Honors College.
MDC courses are developed and offered to meet the many and varied needs of both individual students and the community. College credit courses are offered in general education, occupational/technical, nursing, allied health, business, and public service disciplines.

Associate in Arts Programsback to top
The Associate in Arts degree is designed for students wishing to transfer to universities. The areas of concentration parallel university coursework and prepare students to enter the junior year at four-year institutions upon completion of the A.A. degree.
Associate in Science Programsback to top
The Associate in Science is designed to prepare students for immediate employment in Occupational or Allied Health programs. Credits earned for many courses in these programs are acceptable to upper division colleges should the student decide to pursue a four-year degree. For upper division standing at a state university, the student must complete the CLAST or meet State approved alternative criteria.
Associate of Applied Scienceback to top
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is a two-year degree that leads to employment and is not intended to transfer to a four-year institution. Allied Health programs have selective admissions requirements and offer courses in specialized study as well as general education.
Advanced Technical Certificateback to top
The advanced Technical Certificate is available to students who have already been awarded an Associate in Science degree and wish to upgrade their skills. Students must successfully complete a prescribed set of courses at the advanced level in order to be awarded the Certificate.
Vocational Credit Certificate Programsback to top
These are postsecondary training programs preparing students to enter a specific career or vocation. Programs vary widely in length and complexity. Certificates are awarded after successful completion of specified courses and satisfaction of language and computational skills.
College Credit Certificate Programsback to top
Focusing on a specific job or set of skills, these programs require fewer credits than an AS degree and are Florida Department of Education Certified College Credit programs. The credits granted will apply to the related AS degree.
Bachelor of Scienceback to top
The four-year baccalaureate degrees in Education are designed to prepare students to become teachers and pass state professional certification exams. An internship in a school setting is required to provide practical experience. Additionally, individuals with Bachelor's degrees in other fields are able to earn teacher certification. Bachelor of Applied Scienceback to top
The four-year Bachelor of Applied Science degree is a workforce-driven baccalaureate degree in Public Safety Management designed to provide education and training, resulting in immediate employment possibilities for students in numerous careers in Public Safety. This comprehensive curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, analytical, written and oral communications, as well as research skills designed to prepare today’s learners for entry-level, mid-management, and upper level supervisory positions within Public Safety agencies such as the FBI, DEA, ICE, U.S. Marshals Service, and the U.S. Secret Service.
