How do we become a Community Partner with Miami Dade College and Maintain our Standing as a Service-Learning Collaborator?
- Contact the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy office nearest to your organization to verify eligibility requirements; e.g., 501(c)3 status, adequate location and supervisor availability for student training and orientation;
- Attend one Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy New Community Partner Workshop (held bi-annually);
- Complete an agency description (examples may be found by searching our database: www.mdc.edu/serve) that details your agency's mission, outlines the service opportunities, lists the contact information, hours of operation, and any additional pertinent agency-specific information. This description will be incorporated into the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy’s online database;
- Complete the Letter of Understanding
- Schedule a site visit with the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy office nearest to your organization;
- Receive and return calls in a timely manner from interested Miami Dade College service-learning students;
- Interview service-learning student candidates to clarify responsibilities, expectations, and plan the student's service-learning assignment at your agency;
- Complete the "Service-Learning Contract" in coordination with the service-learning student;
- Provide the service-learning student with an appropriate orientation, all necessary training, and on-going supervision and support throughout their experience;
- Report concerns/issues to the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy, Contact Us;
- Verify and sign the “Service-Learning Hour Report” each time the service-learner visits your site;
- Complete the "Agency Evaluation," a brief end-of-the-term evaluation of the service experience for the service-learning student.
