Miami International Festival of the Arts Opening Ceremony
The MIFA 2012 Opening Ceremony features a welcome from North Campus President Dr. José Vicente, performances by the Pen Players directed by Prof. Andy Quiroga, musical selections by The Chamber and North Star Singers under the direction of Prof. Carol Ann Steele, a student short film presented by Barry Gordon, Director of the School of Entertainment & Design Technology, announcement of the winner of the MIFA poster competition, and a brief overview of all the MIFA festivities presented by Committee Co-Chairpersons Barbara Alfonso and Dr. Ed Calle.

The North Campus Miami International Sculpture Park Tours feature sculptures displayed throughout the North Campus. The tours are available at the Building 3 Breezeway and will be ongoing throughout the festival.

Faculty Chamber Music Recital: Harpsichord, Flute & Piano
True artistry on display, this recital features a wide range of chamber music works performed by North Campus Humanities faculty members Dr. Robert Remek on the harpsichord and piano and Giselle Real-d'Arbelles playing the flute.

Ballet Class Performance and Expo
Under the direction of Humanities and Dance Professor Maria Elena Thevenot, the event features a performance by North Campus ballet students, a multimedia overview of the dance program, and a dance workshop for all participants.

Professor Roca: Cuban Ballet
Author and Philosophy Professor Octavio Roca delivers an overview of the artists and history of Cuban Ballet and the impact of Cuban Ballet around the globe. Moderated by Humanities Professor Maria Elena Thevenot.

Miami - Dade County Public Schools Student Showcase: Theater Scenes
This student showcase features theatre scenes performed by invited M-DCPS High and Middle School theatre students. All performances will be broadcast on the College's television network, MDC-TV.

Acting Worshops for Guest Performers
Offering prospective students a glimpse at the quality of instruction offered at Miami Dade College. All visiting M-DCPS students will engage in acting workshops directed by MDC Theatre Professor Andy Quiroga.

Teleconference Acting Workshop
A teleconference acting workshop conducted by Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Rob Morrow from the hit television series Northern Exposure, Entourage, and Numb3rs. Participants will hone their craft and learn what it takes to be successful in this highly competitive industry. Moderated by Professor Barbara.

A joy to experience, the Pen Players improvisation acting troupe takes center stage to entertain patrons attending the MIFA 2012 concert featuring MDC North Campus Faculty and Staff.

The recital includes a dance program featuring Tango performed by Faculty Librarian Erin Fennel and partner Ricardo Read. Also featured is a chamber music program with Professors Claudio Osorio, Ana Rodriguez, Dr. Robert Remek, Giselle Real-d'Arbelles, Dennis Pitasi, and Dr. Adolfo Vidal.

Music and Math: The Art and Science Continuum
From Einstein to Jobs, this presentation focuses on an exploration and celebration of the ties that bind music to math and the masters who apply creativity in the pursuit of knowledge and artistry around the globe. Dr. Calle will highlight connections between math and music and the creative spirits that inspire and propel mankind.

The newly established Salsa Ensemble will perform a wide range of Afro-Cuban and Latin music featuring outstanding instrumentalists and vocalists including: Ruben Caban (trombone), Francisco Dimas, (trumpet), Claudia Lopez (vocals), and Dr. Ed Calle (saxophone). Conducted by Prof. Albert Bade, the Film Scoring Orchestra will perform the music of John Williams.
