Miami, Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - Miami Dade College (MDC) Foundation board member, Alumni Hall of Fame inductee and former Latin Builders Association (LBA) president, Augusto J. Gil, made a $50,000 donation to the college's District Board of Trustees on April 15. The amount will help fund scholarships on behalf of the LBA.

Current LBA President Osvaldo Vento Jr. and executive board member Anthony Seijas were also in attendance at the check presentation. Per Florida legislature, the gift is eligible for state matching funds, which will bring the grand total to $100,000.

"Mr. Gil and his colleagues from the LBA are shining examples of generosity, civic responsibility and professionalism," said Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, president of Miami Dade College. "We thank them for this donation which will go a long way in opening the doors of higher education to so many in our community who need it."

Gil has served as president of Gil Development Inc. and Gil Homes for the past 17 years. LBA is a non-profit organization established in 1971 to create a network of builders, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, plumbers, electricians and tradesmen associated with the business of construction, striving to provide a vital forum for discussion, networking, training/development, and representation at the local and state level.
