National Print and Radio Journalists Featured in Upcoming MDC Journalism Speaker Series

Miami, February 18, 2009 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Journalism Speaker Series, designed to bring students face-to-face with experienced journalists, will feature national journalists Don Hudson of The Clarion Ledger in Jackson, Miss. and Dan Grech of National Public Radio (Marketplace). Hudson and Grech will talk with students on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 11: 15 a.m. at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Avenue, Room 7128.

The Speaker Series was launched in February of 2008 to create an exchange and learning opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in journalism. Each program includes a presentation by the journalists and a 15-minute question and answer session. All programs are free and open to the public. 

Hudson, who has 28 years of experience in the newspaper industry, runs the day-to-day operations at The Clarion Ledger and serves as lead recruiter. He joined the industry in 1981 as a sports reporter at The News-Star-World in Monroe, La., He has also worked for the Orlando Sentinel and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Grech covers Latin America and Hispanic business for Marketplace on WLRN 91.3 FM. He's written for The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and the Miami Herald. In 2003, he earned a Fulbright fellowship and an Inter American Press Association scholarship to Argentina. Grech is the co-founder, co-producer and co-host of a new South Florida radio show, Under the Sun.

Other journalists set to participate this year include Pulitzer Prize-winning author and former Miami Herald police-beat reporter Edna Buchanan, WPLG Local 10’s Neki Mohan, Associated Press chief of bureau in New Orleans Mike McQueen, and CBS 4’s Natalia Zea.
