MDC North Campus President Appointed to the Newly Established City of Miami’s Education Advisory Board
Miami, August 21, 2009 - Active on several important local and national boards, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus President, Dr. José A. Vicente, was recently appointed to the City of Miami’s Education Advisory Board. In this capacity, he will join colleagues in leadership positions from other institutions, the K-12 system and community organizations to advise the city’s elected and appointed leaders on education matters with the goal of collectively improving Miami’s educational environment.
In June, Dr. Vicente was also appointed to the Board of Directors of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. He has served MDC in various important capacities since 1973, including as founding President of the InterAmerican Campus. He holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University and he has engaged in post-doctoral studies at Harvard University.
Since MDC opened its doors in 1960, its leadership has served on important local and national boards advancing the institution’s mission and profile. In addition to Dr. Vicente, the college’s president, provost, campus presidents and senior administrators all serve on critical local, statewide and national committees and boards. Community involvement is a cornerstone at MDC.
