MDC Homestead Campus President Jeanne Jacobs Appointed to Homestead Hospital Board of Directors
Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs, president, MDC Homestead Campus
Miami, September 22, 2009 - The leaders of Miami Dade College (MDC) are often pegged to serve on important local and national boards advancing the institution’s mission and profile. The latest appointment involves the president of the College’s Homestead Campus, Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs, who has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Homestead Hospital.
Dr. Jacobs joins 15 other board members who help guide the faith-based, not-for-profit hospital that is part of Baptist Health South Florida. All Baptist Health board members are volunteers who serve without compensation.
“Homestead Hospital has been instrumental in the success of the Homestead community,” said Dr. Jacobs. “The invitation to serve on the board of directors is an honor as well as a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the hospital’s mission and to build relationships that will benefit our students and the community.”
Homestead Hospital has been a part of the south Miami-Dade community since 1940, when local physician James Archer Smith opened it as a 10-bed hospital east of Krome Avenue. Today, Homestead Hospital is a modern, full-service 142-bed facility. The new $135 million hospital opened in May 2007, replacing the original facility.
President of MDC’s Homestead Campus since 2005, Dr. Jacobs serves several community organizations including the Executive Council of the Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce, the Senior Advisory Council of the Red Cross, and the Vision Council of Homestead.
Dr. Jacobs holds a doctor of philosophy degree in administration of higher education from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In addition, she has participated in professional development programs at Harvard University.
