Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón
Miami, October 2, 2009 -
During his four decade career in higher education, Miami Dade College (MDC) President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón has served on numerous important national boards, including those he was appointed to by four U.S. Presidents, championing greater access and quality in higher education and placing MDC in the national spotlight.
Now, he’s been appointed to the Advisory Commission of the National Museum of the American Latino. Retired U.S. Senator Mel Martinez recommended Dr. Padrón for appointment to this Commission and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made it one of his appointments. Dr. Padrón joins music mogul Emilio Estefan and other important leaders on the Commission.
The Commission is tasked with studying a potential National Museum of the American Latino. It will work over the next two years to study: (1) how to establish the museum, (2) a financing plan, (3) detailed issues such as where in the Washington, D.C. area the museum should be located, what exhibits should be shown, how the museum should be structured, a cost estimate for construction or renovation of the building, and similar details.
The commission will also prepare draft legislation for Congress to consider in implementing the commission’s recommendations. The commissioners also have the authority to have a national conference on the subject to gather information and increase public awareness.
Recently, Dr. Padrón was named to the board of directors of the Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF) and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He is also the current chair of the prestigious Association of American Colleges and Universities. He also serves on several other important boards.
