MDC Homestead Campus President will be Honored at the 22nd Annual 'In the Company of Women 2010 Awards Ceremony'

Miami, March 3, 2010 - Miami Dade College (MDC) Homestead Campus president Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs has been selected to receive the Outstanding Woman in Education and Research award from Miami-Dade County.

Dr. Jacobs will receive her award at the 22nd Annual In the Company of Women 2010 Awards Ceremony, to be held on March 18, 2010, at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.

The award spotlights the accomplishments of an outstanding professional female leader in the community in Education and Research.

Dr. Jacobs has served as president of the Homestead Campus of Miami Dade College since 2005.

The Homestead Campus is home to the Eig-Watson School of Aviation, and offers degrees and certificates in nursing, computer technology and engineering business, education, entertainment technology, as well as general education. 

Prior to joining MDC, Dr. Jacobs served as vice president of instruction at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, and as dean of liberal arts and sciences. All told, Dr. Jacobs has more than 30 years of administrative leadership and teaching experience in higher education. 

The selection process for the award was carried out by a committee of past winners and community leaders who reviewed the nomination forms in order to determine the nominee's eligibility.

For the professional awards, emphasis was placed on the nominee's contribution to women's progress in her profession or area of interest.  

Nominees were required to meet the eligibility criteria reflecting continued accomplishments in the following five areas: Professional Development, Community Responsibility, Leadership and Vision, Contribution to Women's Progress, and Promotion of Pluralism

Since 1989, audiences have gathered to honor the outstanding achievements of women from throughout Miami-Dade County, during the annual In the Company of Women event.

This popular and prestigious event serves as part of Women’s History Month, observed annually in March. The event has received recognition from the National Association of Counties and the Southern Region of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.
