MDC President will Deliver the Atwell Lecture at Annual Meeting of the American Council on Education
The ACE Annual Meeting is the premier event for the nation’s higher education leaders to connect with one another and discuss critical issues facing our community.

Miami, March 4, 2010 - Miami Dade College (MDC) president, Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, will deliver the important Atwell Lecture at the Annual Meeting of the American Council on Education (ACE) in Phoenix on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at 5 p.m., to officially commence the key gathering of national higher education leaders.
Since 1997, the ACE Annual Meeting has opened with the Robert H. Atwell Lecture named for Atwell who served as ACE president from 1984 to 1996. Dr. Padrón’s address will be delivered during the Opening Plenary Session of the Annual Meeting taking place at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
The ACE Annual Meeting runs from March 6 – 9, 2010. During the gathering, the membership will also select the new leadership of its Board of Directors. Dr. Padrón has been nominated as chair-elect, and, if elected by his peers, will succeed the newly elected chair in 2011. It is expected he will be tapped by his colleagues as chair-elect Monday, March 8.
Many renowned college and university presidents have delivered the Atwell Lecture including Brown University president, Dr. Ruth Simmons, who has spoken at MDC and Ohio State University president, Dr. E. Gordon Gee, who was lauded by TIME magazine along with Dr. Padrón last fall for being on the publication’s list of “The 10 Best College Presidents” in the nation. The former presidents of Harvard and Duke universities have also delivered the address in the past.
