Miami, April 21, 2010 - A group of senior administrators from China will visit Miami Dade College (MDC) April 25 through May 8, as part of a special program devoted to teaching best practices in continuing education to foreign delegates.

As host institution of the Vocational Education Leadership Training Program (VELT), MDC faculty and administrators will advise six leaders from Chinese vocational and technical institutions on ways to improve their curriculum, develop strong relationships with the business community, enhance teaching methods, and strengthen their leadership abilities.

The group of Chinese delegates will receive their training at MDC’s Medical Center Campus, attend lectures and seminars, shadow senior college administrators, and visit local businesses and organizations such as the Miami Rescue Mission and Baptist Hospital in Kendall.

"We look forward to hosting the distinguished delegation of Chinese administrators from various vocational and technical institutions," said Dr. Anita S. Kaplan, MDC Medical Center Campus president. "Both our countries’ administrative leaders will be able to learn from each other."

Started in 2008, VELT is a five-year program that is financed by the Chinese government and jointly managed by the Association of Community Colleges and the China Education Association for International Exchange.

The goal of the program, which is paid for by the Chinese government, is to train about 500 administrators nationwide by 2012.

In related news, MDC will inaugurate its prestigious Confucius Institute on April 29.
