U.S. Premiere of Latest Film by Cuban Director Rolando Diaz at MDC Tower Theater

la Vida Segun Ofelia

Miami, April 6, 2010 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Tower Theater, located in the heart of Little Havana,  will present the U.S. premiere of La Vida Según Ofelia (Life According to Ofelia), the most recent release by renown Cuban director Rolando Diaz, who also wrote the screenplay. Film screenings will run April 9 – 22 (see complete schedule below).

La Vida Según Ofelia (Life According to Ofelia) is about a young playwright, widow and single mother whose dream is to enter her musical theater production in an international festival. The film was first screened in the Canary Islands, where Diaz relocated 15 years ago after his film, Melodrama, was banned in Havana. He now resides in Miami.

Internationally distributed by the prestigious Italian film distribution company, INTRAMOVIES, La Vida Según Ofelia (Life According to Ofelia) is the first feature film by Diaz that goes beyond the Cuban culture with a more universal theme.

“My last film addresses the subgenre that we now call ‘dramedy’, a special mix of drama and comedy,” Diaz said. “This idea, however, is nothing new to Diaz, whose prior films have all demonstrated a certain mastery of said genre, long before it was even identified as such.

Diaz will be present at the film’s first screening at the Tower Theater, on April 9, at 9 p.m.
