Resolution Honoring Miami Dade College’s 50th Anniversary Introduced by MDC Alumna and US Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Passed Unanimously by House

Miami, September 15, 2010 - Congressional Resolution (1571) that honors MDC’s 50th anniversary and that was introduced by United States Congresswoman and Miami Dade College (MDC) alumna, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen - a senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, was passed unanimously by the House last night, September 14. In fact, all 24 members of the Florida Congressional Delegation co-sponsored this special Resolution which was read and lauded by several Representatives including Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen herself. The final vote count was 378-0.

“I earned my Associate’s Degree from MDC, with the college providing me with a solid educational foundation that greatly helped me when I went on to earn my Master’s and later my Doctorate. So many of our local leaders attended MDC and so many have the fondest memories of our time there. Without a doubt, this excellent educational center is truly a cherished South Florida institution,” said Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen. “This Resolution puts into words the feelings and emotions of everyone who attended the college. I wish the school and its wonderful faculty and students 50 more great years of quality education and learning.”

In the Resolution, the Congresswoman lauds MDC’s half century of service, academic and cultural excellence, major milestones and the example it’s set for other institutions to follow.

“As a former educator and Florida certified teacher, I am pleased to have introduced this bill to congratulate my alma mater, Miami Dade College, on its 50th anniversary. In fact, I can proudly say that my father, my brother and I are all graduates of this fine institution,” added Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen.

Earlier this year, the Florida House and Senate passed similar resolutions praising Miami Dade College for its 50th Anniversary.
