Miami Dade College to Offer Weekend College Option in Spring 2011

Miami, December 7, 2010 - To accommodate working professionals and adults with active lifestyles, Miami Dade College (MDC) now offers students a chance to earn credits toward a degree on Fridays and Saturdays, beginning in the spring 2011 term. 

“This is a great option for busy individuals who want to get an education but desperately need the flexible arrangements to do so,” said Dr. Ana Cruz, interim executive director of MDC’s West Campus. “We have a team of academic advisors who will work with the students to determine if this Weekend College is the best option for them.” 

Available at MDC’s West Campus in Doral, the Weekend College program is designed for students taking courses toward an AA degree in business administration or accounting.  Students enrolled in Weekend College will have full-time status and will earn their degree in less time than any other degree program. 

“As an institution, MDC is always exploring ways to make higher education accessible to all students,” said Dr. José A. Vicente, president of MDC’s North Campus. “This weekend college program is another example of our commitment to working students.” 

The classes run a total of 16 weeks and will enable students to take one course on Friday and up to three courses on Saturdays, once a semester.

On Fridays, classes in the Weekend College begin at 5:40 p.m. and run until 8:10 p.m. On Saturdays, classes are held in three shifts: 8:30 to 11 a.m., 11:10 a.m. to 1:40 p.m., and 1:50 to 4:20 p.m. 

The MDC West Campus is centrally located at 3800 N.W. 115th Avenue in Doral.
