Homestead Campus President to be Honored by Jewish Center for Commitment to Further Holocaust and Genocide Education

MDC Homestead Campus President Dr. Jeanne Jacobs

Miami, February 25, 2011 - Miami Dade College (MDC) Homestead Campus President Dr. Jeanne Jacobs has received numerous awards during her career - including several from South Florida organizations over the years.

Now, she is due to accept another honor from Temple Hatikvah Homestead Jewish Center during its gala reception on March 5, 2011 at its headquarters in South Miami-Dade.

Rabbi Jack Sparks said the Temple chose Dr. Jacobs for the honor because of her leadership and continued commitment to further Holocaust and genocide education at the Homestead Campus.

“Your school has brought vibrancy to this community – for which we are all grateful,” said Rabbi Sparks.

“An integral part of South Florida, the Miami Dade College Homestead Campus has impacted thousands of eager learners. Dr. Jacobs and her predecessors have guided MDC from a few trailers into a significant institution of higher learning with far reaching impact.”

Temple Hatikvah Homestead Jewish Center will celebrate its 60th anniversary at the gala reception next month.

It is a liberal congregation serving the Jewish community of South Dade (Homestead, Perrine, Palmetto Bay, The Redland, Cutler Ridge, the Upper Keys and Northern Monroe County).

It was founded as a Jewish Community Center in 1952 by visionary Jewish pioneers who moved deep into South Dade where they wanted to build a center of Jewish life.
