Miami, March 15, 2011 - Miami Dade College (MDC) Wolfson Campus Dean of Academic Affairs Thomas W. Meyer, Ph.D. was recently elected to the board of directors of the American Conference of Academic Deans (ACAD).

Established in 1945, ACAD is an independent, national, nonprofit organization for academic deans to meet, network, exchange views and offer professional support to one another in their work as academic leaders. ACAD is a membership-driven organization that provides the resources academic administrators need to excel in their field as they promote and support the ideals of a liberal education.

A veteran educator with more than 20 years of teaching and training experience and 11 years in various management and administrative roles, Meyer has taught full-time at Drexel University and the University of Miami.

Prior to embarking on his career at MDC, Dr. Meyer was working in the private sector as a management consultant in the area of organizational development and leadership training, implementation of best practices, performance improvement, and quality enhancement. Dr. Meyer earned a Ph.D. in Educational Linguistics, an M.S. in TESOL, and a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania.

In his new role with ACAD, Dr. Meyer hopes to assist with further development of a strategic plan for ACAD and to help plan the annual meeting program.

“I’m honored to have been elected to serve in this very important role and hope to raise awareness of the vital role community colleges play in the American education system,” said Meyer.
