MDC Tower Theater Hosts Commercial Release of The Dancer and the Thief and the Italian Ex

El baile de la Victoria

Miami, July 27, 2011 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) historic Tower Theater on Calle Ocho will present the U.S. commercial release of two European films: Spanish director Fernando Truba’s The Dancer and the Thief (El baile de la Victoria), and the award-winning Ex, an Italian film by Fausto Brizzi.

Nominated for nine Goya awards and Spain’s official entry for the 2010 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category, The Dancer and the Thief (El baile de la Victoria) is a thriller about two men serving prison time who are pardoned. The older man seeks only to recover his family and begin a new life, while the other dreams of exacting revenge on the prison warden. When a woman named Victoria crosses their paths, everyone’s destinies are altered.

Directed and co-written by Brizzi, Ex is a comedy divided into episodes that intertwine and revolve around the love lives of six couples. The film was nominated for ten David di Donatello awards, the Italian equivalent to the Academy Award.

The films are presented in their original languages, Spanish and Italian, with English subtitles.

Tickets are $8 for the general public, $7 for students, seniors and members of the Miami Film Society. Also, five-ticket packages are available for $30. Parking is free in the lot behind the theater. The theater is located at 1508 SW 8th St.
