MDC’s School of Education Director Invited to Serve on Two Distinct Important Educational Committees

Miami, August 19, 2011 - Dr. Susan Neimand, director of the Miami Dade College (MDC) School of Education at the InterAmerican Campus (IAC), has accepted dual invitations to serve on distinct educational committees.

Dr. Neimand will serve as member of the Board of Directors for River Cities Community Charter School and on the Florida Department of Education’s Statewide Articulation Coordinating Committee (ACC).

River Cities Community Charter School prepares sixth to eighth grade students to achieve academic success for high school and college. Dr. Neimand’s plans to establish a partnership between IAC’s School of Education and the school. A collaborative effort will be fostered as a community of learners and expand on the school’s mission to build knowledge, creativity, and character in a small learning community. 

“Dr. Neimand’s acceptance to sit on the Board of Directors for the River Cities Community Charter School and the Florida Department ofEducation’s Statewide Articulation Coordinating Committee strengthens the College’s advocacy for education in the State of Florida,” stated Dr. Carol Tulikangas, Dean of Academic Affairs at the InterAmerican Campus.

The ACC is a K-20 advisory body appointed by the Commissioner of Education. It is comprised of representatives from all levels of public and private education: the State University System, the Community College System, independent postsecondary institutions, public schools, nonpublic schools, and career and technical education.  ACC exists to coordinate ways to help students move easily from institution to institution and from one level of education to the next.
