MDC President Appointed to Commission on the Humanities & Social Sciences joining National Leaders, Luminaries and Thinkers


Miami, March 7, 2012 -

Miami Dade College (MDC) President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón will be in good company as he begins his appointment on Commission of the Humanities & Social Sciences. The goal of the Commission is to claim a space in the national dialogue for the humanities and social sciences, and recommend specific steps that government, academia, business, and philanthropy can take to support and strengthen these areas. The Commission was created by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences at the request of Congress.

The Commission is comprised of leaders from the humanities, social sciences, business, law, journalism, and academia. In addition to Dr. Padrón, other members include Richard H. Brodhead, president of Duke University; John W. Rowe, chairman and CEO of Exelon Corporation; Robert J. Birgeneau, chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley; David Brooks, New York Times journalist; James Cuno, president and CEO of the J. Paul Getty Trust; John Engler, president of the Business Roundtable and former Governor of Michigan; Drew Gilpin Faust, president of Harvard University; Amy Gutman, president of the University of Pennsylvania; John L. Hennessy, president of Stanford University; Rev. John I. Jenkins, president of the University of Notre Dame; Steven Knapp, president of the George Washington University; actor John Lithgow; screenwriter, producer, and director George Lucas; musician Yo-Yo Ma; Carolyn “Biddy” Martin, president of Amherst College; James McNerney, chairman, president and CEO of Boeing Company; John Sexton, president of New York University; David J. Skorton, president of Cornell University; John E. Warnock, chairman of Adobe Systems, Inc.; and others.
