The Grind burger battle

Miami, March 15, 2012 - Wars have been fought, but a battle like this never tasted so good. On Saturday, Mar. 31, the first ever The Grind Burger Battle will bring together some of South Florida’s top chefs to compete for the coveted Golden Grinder prize and title.

The Grind has partnered with the Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) at Miami Dade College (MDC) to offer its students a unique, hands-on experience. As the grills fire up, MCI Gourmet Club students will be right in the front lines. They will have the opportunity to work alongside renowned local chefs helping to prepare the evening’s main attraction – a smorgasbord of delicious and innovative burgers.

Local celebrity judges and event goers will get to vote in a variety of categories for their favorite sliders provided by 30 participating restaurants. Creekstone Farms is a major sponsor, providing Certified Premium Black Angus Beef to all competitors.  And In an effort to eliminate food waste, The Grind will participate in Feeding South Florida’s Extra Helpings program, which recovers food that may be leftover to feed the hungry.

The Grind will take place at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. for VIP ticket holders) at the Miami Entertainment Complex located at 50 NW 14 Street. Judges will include WSVN 7 news anchor and MDC alumna Belkys Nerey; NBC 4 sports anchor Adam Kuperstein; CBS 4’s Jeff Berardelli; James Beard award-winning Chef, Norman Van Aken, MCI’s director of restaurants; world-class restaurateur Steve Haas; Stan Rudman, co-chair of the Miami Dolphins Foundation; Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff; and The Burger Beast - Sef Gonzalez, food critic.
