Miami International Film Festival to host special advance screening of Nacho Vigalondo’s “Extraterrestrial”, and signs on as Promotional Partner for VanArts’ Masterclass with Pixar Artists
Miami, May 29, 2012 - As part of its upcoming 30th anniversary season activities, Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College (MDC), will host a special advance screening of Madrid filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo’s comedyExtraterrestrial (Extraterrestre) on Saturday, June 9th at 6:45 p.m. at MDC’s Tower Theater. Vigalondo, an Oscar nominee in 2003 for his short film “7:35 in the Morning”, is expected to attend the screening and participate in a Q&A session following the film.
MIFF executive director Jaie Laplante also announced MIFF had signed on as a Promotional Partner for VanArts’ Masterclass in Animation & Story Development with Pixar Animation Studios animators Matthew Luhn and Andrew Gordon, to be held Saturday & Sunday, July 13th & 14th at the Colony Theatre on Miami Beach, from 9am to 5pm each day. MIFF will be celebrating the event by giving away 2 registrations (valued at $499 each) to the Masterclass at its June 9th screening of Extraterrestrial.
Extraterrestrial (Extraterrestre) stars Michelle Jenner and Julián Villagrán as Julia and Julio, two strangers who wake up next to each other in Julia’s bed one morning, without any memory of the night before. As they struggle to put together the pieces, they look out the window to see a massive UFO hovering overhead, while the streets of Madrid below are deserted. T his is writer-director-producer Nacho Vigalondo’s second feature film, after 2007’s Timecrimes (Los cronocrímenes), which is currently being developed for an American remake by Dreamworks Studios by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Steve Zallian. VanArts (Vancouver Institute of Media Arts) is a visual, media and performing arts school founded in 1995. This summer, VanArts will be presenting its Masterclass in Animation & Story Development in sessions in Chic ago, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto and Miami. Pixar’s Head of Story, Matthew Luhn, who has worked at Pixar since 1992 on the first CG movie Toy Story, and Animator Andrew Gordon, who has worked on A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Toy Story 3.
