Miami Dade College to Welcome New Group of American Dream Scholars

AmDream1

Miami, July 20, 2012 - As Miami Dade College prepares for the start of another new and exciting academic year, Ms. Madeline Pumariega, president of the Wolfson Campus, will welcome the incoming class of 2014’s American Dream Scholars (ADS) to their Second ADS Welcome Convocation on Wednesday, August 22. The Scholars are recipients of the groundbreaking American Dream Scholarship, a unique MDC initiative offering a free college education to any Miami-Dade high school graduate, public and private, with a 3.0 or higher GPA and with college-ready placement scores. These students represent the best and brightest in the county.

The new students will meet faculty and student services staff and be given the opportunity to connect with returning American Dream peer scholars from last year. The scholars also will receive valuable information and have the opportunity to enroll in specially designated ADS teaching community cohort classes that will allow them to become fully engaged in the virtual classroom. Scholars will also be exposed to all aspects of student life and community service options that are designed to enhance their personal, career and academic development at MDC. Parents are welcome to attend a special support session.

The incoming scholars will receive a two-year, 60-credit, tuition-free scholarship that will allow them to complete their associate degree. To be eligible, they must also complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA by the August 1 deadline.

Scholars: To RSVP for the Wolfson Campus ADS Welcome Program, call the New Student Center at 305-237-3076.
