Miami Dade College’s
(MDC) North Campus will once again delight young ones with its annual Children’s Holiday at North on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free and open to the public, the Children’s Holiday at North will offer a wonderland of fun with exhibits; a Holiday Snow Village and a 12-foot mountain of snow where children will be able to slide down in tubes South Florida-style; and live performances on three stages which will include a Polynesian revue featuring Lilo and Stitch with hula fire dancers, Hip Hop Kidz, the South Florida Youth Symphony, belly dancers, performances by Miami Classic Ballet, jazz bands and orchestras from various middle and high schools and much more!
Santa and his elves will arrive in a helicopter at 11:15 a.m.
The guest of honor and Mrs. Claus will ride on a horse-drawn carriage in a parade that will feature four marching bands and popular characters. Children will be able to meet and greet Santa Claus by his chimney, have their picture taken, and drop their letters in his mailbox.
Other highlights include a Youth in Agriculture Pavilion sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture featuring wild animal shows, a petting zoo and games; an arts and crafts pavilion; a holidays around the world pavilion showcasing holiday customs and traditions celebrated in other countries; Elsie’s Greenshop - this elf will show kids how to go green this holiday season, from ornaments to holiday cards; and more than 50 exhibits from Jungle Island, Little Hands for Human Rights, the Florida Marlins, the Miami Dolphins, the Miami Science Museum, the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, featuring Mary Poppins, Build-A-Bear, and Chuck e Cheese, just to name a few. Ponies, train rides, bounce houses, rock climbing walls, Air-K9 dog shows, clowns, face painting, and a large number of technology mobiles with games round out the wide variety the activities.
“The North Campus of Miami Dade College takes pride in presenting the Children’s Holiday at North event to our community,” said Dr. Jose Vicente, North Campus president. “Many families do not have the resources this holiday season to bring to their children the magic of the holidays. This is a way for the College to give back to our community and most importantly for planting the seed in the children’s mind about the importance of attending College by visiting the College’s grounds and facilities and interacting with faculty and staff who will volunteer their services that day, says Dr. Vicente.
Attendees will be able to purchase food in a courtyard featuring a variety of cuisines. Families are encouraged to contribute one toy toward the Amigos for Kids toy drive that will be donated to needy children in the community.
