MDC Wolfson Campus to Host Entrepreneurship in Engineering and Technology Roundtable for National Engineers Week
Miami, February 19, 2013 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Engineering and Technologywill host a roundtable discussion on current topics in entrepreneurship within the scope of engineering and technology. The event, held during National Engineers Week, will take place on Friday, Feb. 22, at noon, in the new IDEA Center at the MDC Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.
The open discussion style forum will provide participants an opportunity to learn more about entrepreneurship in these fields, develop their professionalism, learn about trends in engineering and technology and network with expert entrepreneurs.
“Here at the School of Engineering and Technology, we are constantly trying to create opportunities for our students and community to grow professionally,” said Dr. Miguel Alonso Jr., chairperson of MDC’s engineering department. “Events like these expose our students to professionals in the industry and give them the chance to network and engage with creative entrepreneurs, empowering them to become entrepreneurs themselves.”
The roundtable will be moderated by Vanessa Kuljis, an associate at the Greenberg Traurig law firm and advocate for the Miami startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Speakers include: Amanda Anthony, CEO and founder of The Professional Connection Incorporated and owner of FlySocially airport travel app;Mr. Jaime Borras, CEO of Wireless Silicon Group, Inc. and chairperson of the Mobile Technology Consortium; Mr. Carlos Ordonez, CEO and co-founder of Aeronautic Investments, Inc. and Startup Evangelist at Creatus Ventures; and Dr. Elio Espino, president of Advanced Transportation Engineering Consultants.
Topics include:
· Startups- The ins and outs of startups and the barriers to success
· Intellectual Property- What small businesses need to know about intellectual property and how to protect
your IP
· Early Stage Financing- Securing angel and early stage financing
· Policy- How local, state, and federal policy can affect entrepreneurial pursuits
The School of Engineering and Technology provides courses and programs designed to meet the workforce needs of the information technology, telecommunications, and engineering industries.
