MDC’s Wolfson Campus to Host Lecture by Local Business Leader, Mr. Ignacio Urbieta
Miami, February 15, 2013 - In its quest to prepare students for the real world, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business will offer pupils the opportunity to learn first-hand from local and prominent entrepreneur, Mr. Ignacio Urbieta, owner of Urbieta Oil Company.
The lecture, which will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7:45 p.m., in room 2219 of the Wolfson Campus, is designed to give students in the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program a front-seat advantage to learn from one of the most successful business leaders in our community.
“Events like these expose students to members of the community who have achieved success in business-leadership positions,” said Dr. Ana Cruz, chair of the School of Business at Wolfson Campus. “Dr. Rolando Ochoa, professor at the College’s School of Business, continues to forward his mission of bringing executives to our campus and to his classes for the benefit of the student body.”
Mr. Urbieta made his mark in the retail fuel industry with the purchase of his first, full-service gas station in New Jersey, in 1971. But Miami’s warm weather beckoned. Soon after the Urbieta family established its business here. Today, Urbieta Oil Company employs more than 100 people across its 70 facilities, and distributes more than 150-million gallons of petroleum, each year.
MDC’s School of Business attracts students from throughout Florida and from every state and many foreign countries, providing an academic setting rich with cultural diversity. The Bachelor of Applied Science is the designated degree title for flexible baccalaureate programs that are designed to accommodate the unique demands for entry and advancement within specific workforce sectors.
