MDC Campus President Dr. Jeanne Jacobs to Deliver Black History Month Lecture

Miami, January 22, 2013 - In honor of Black History Month, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Homestead Campus President, Dr. Jeanne Jacobs, will be the featured speaker for the next Bea Peskoe Lunchtime Lecture Series. Her speech is titled“Education—Advancing Our Dream,” and will take placeon Monday, Feb. 4 at noon at the Homestead Community Center.
Dr. Jacobs has served as the Homestead campus president since 2005.With more than 34 years of experience in higher education leadership, Dr. Jacobs has received numerous awards and recognition. In 2010, shewas awarded a Congressional Record by the Honorable Mario Diaz-Balart for her achievements in education, leadership and research. She was also honored as the 2010 Outstanding Woman in Education & Research for the In the Company of Women Awards sponsored by Miami-Dade County.
Dr. Jacobs serves on several local community boards, including the Board of Directors of Homestead Hospital, the Executive Council of the Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce, theHomestead Educational Facilities Board and the Greater Miami Chapter of the Links, Inc.
The monthly lecture series is named for the late Bea Peskoe, who along with her husband Irving Peskoe was an advocate for education and an integral force in MDC establishing a campus in the City of Homestead.
The series is presented with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, Homestead MayorSteve C. Bateman and the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners.

The lectures are free and open to the public.
