Miami Dade College Nursing Professors among Top 25 in Florida
Miami, February 6, 2013 - It’s been often said, “It takes a special kind of person to be a nurse.” That couldn’t be truer of MDC’s nursing faculty. Five MDC nursing professors have been chosen by Online Schools of Florida for having “really made – or are making – a difference in the field.”
The recipients of this award – professors at MDC’s renowned Medical Campus – are among a top-tier faculty that offers students real-world experience in a variety of settings. The four-year curriculum they teach helps build on students’ natural compassion with the competency, critical-thinking skills, and cultural awareness needed to help future nurses be exemplary health-care providers.
The five winners include:
Dr. Yamina Alvarez, with her 35 years of experience in the field and teaching, has won the Florida Nursing Association’s South Region 2012 Nurse Educator Award and the Joan K. Stout R.N. Endowed Teaching Chair in Nursing at Miami Dade College, in 2012.
Dr. Marie O. Etienne was named Haitian Woman of the Year by the National Center of the Haitian Apostolate and appointed to serve on the National Nursing Committee of the American Red Cross.
