Award-Winning Local 10 anchor Neki Mohan

Miami, March 6, 2013 - In honor of Women’s History Month, Local 10 television news a nchor, Neki Mohan, will speak on her role as a woman in the media at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus on Tuesday, March 12 at 11:15 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Women’s History Month takes place each year during the month of March. The theme for this year’s celebration is: Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Mohan, a veteran journalist, is the award-winning station’s weekend and morning anchor and reporter. A broadcast journalist in South Florida for more than a decade, Mohan will also discuss the role of women in covering science and technology, including general weather and hurricane coverage.

The New York native has worked throughout the U.S., but given her Caribbean roots, says she feels most at home in South Florida. Mohan worked for WTVJ-Ch. 6 from 1997-2000. She started with WPLG-10 in 2004, after finishing a stint anchoring morning and noon news and covering special reports in Cleveland. She returned to South Florida just in time to cover four hurricanes in a row. She received international attention as the only television journalist to report live from Jamaica during Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

Mohan has also worked in Los Angeles, Jackson, Miss., and Washington, D.C. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and politics from the University of Maryland at College Park.

Mohan is an avid runner, a mentor with the Women of Tomorrow organization and participates in many charitable causes including, The American Heart Association, the Boys and Girls Club and Overtown Youth Center, among others.

Raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Neki is very active in the Caribbean community and understands the unique qualities that contribute to the region’s diversity.
