MDC Awarded State Farm Grant for Financial Literacy Workshop
~ Workshop Targets ESOL Students
Miami, February 12, 2013 - Miami, Feb. 12, 2013– Thanks to a recently announced grant from State Farm Insurance, Miami Dade College’s (MDC)School of Business will host a financial literacy workshop. The free class, scheduled for April 3, is geared to ESOL students or English Speakers of Other Languages as a way to help them understand good financial practices in the U.S.
The School of Business collaborated with MDC’s Center for Financial Training (CFT) to apply for the $5,000 grant and organize the workshop, which will take place from noon to 1 p.m., at the Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The workshop, being taught by two of MDC’s Honors College students, will cover topics on savings, budgeting and credit. An estimated 50 students are expected to attend.
“Assisting students in learning the intricacies of financial planning is one of our goals, and this seminar is the starting point,” says Dr. Ana M. Cruz, Chair of the Business Department at MDC’s Wolfson campus.

A check presentation for the $5,000 grant will be held at the workshop. The class is free and open to all MDC students.
