Activities at the Annual Day of the Young Child, MDC Homestead Campus

Miami, March 11, 2013 - Miami Dade College’ s (MDC) Homestead Campus and the School of Education invite the community to celebrate the Day of the Young Child, Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 pm, at the Homestead Campus.

Children and families will enjoy a host of interactive, early-childhood educational activities with a focus on the mental, physical, and emotional development of children from birth to eight years of age. Health and nutritional resources will also be made available.

More than 50 groups will be participating in this year’s event, including the Miami Museum of Science, the Miami Children’s Museum, Zoo Miami, The Children’s Movement of Florida, and Everglades National Park.  Day of the Young Child is sponsored by The Children’s Trust and is being held in partnership with the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

This year’s theme, Planting Seeds for the Future, is part of a nationwide campaign by the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s 2013 Week of the Young Child, which runs April 14-20. Its purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

We are proud to host the Day of the Young Child to emphasize the importance of early childhood development,” said Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs, President of the Miami Dade College Homestead Campus. “The early childhood education program at MDC provides excellent classroom and practical experience, educating our students to become great teachers that make a positive impact on young children.”
