Miami Dade College’s Freedom Tower Becomes a Canvas for Public Art Project on Immigration Reform

Inside Out project 1

Inside Out 11M project in Washington, D.C.

Miami, August 28, 2013 - Be part of a historic, global art project transforming messages of personal identity into works of art. Miami Dade College (MDC) will host the national version of Inside Out, launched by award-winning French artist JR. The project collects portraits of people worldwide and strategically and safely pastes them on exterior walls, creating a sort of mosaic. In the U.S., Inside Out/11 M aims to put a face on immigration reform and the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country.

For three days, August 29 – 31, photo booths will be set up outside MDC’s Freedom Tower. Students, faculty and staff, and the community at large, are invited to drop by and have their photo taken. The image will be instantly printed on 3 x 4 ft. posters and wheat pasted, using non-invasive temporary glue, on the Freedom Tower’s exterior. Participants will also receive a copy of their photo via e-mail and are encouraged to share through social media. There is no cost to participate.

Since Dec. 2012, more than 120,000 people from more than 108 countries have participated in the Inside Out project, including the U.S., Haiti, Brazil, Mexico, Paris, Israel, Palestine, Thailand, Russia, and more.
