Miami, September 25, 2013 - The latest class of students at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) trendsetting Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) will get their chef’s coats at a special ceremony at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The 61 aspiring chefs are aiming to receive an Associate in Science (A.S.) in Culinary Arts Management and to be the future of Miami’s exciting culinary scene. This ceremony serves as their official welcome to the MCI and its special blend of food, culture and innovation. Chef Adrianne Calvo will be the keynote speaker.

MDC has developed a breakthrough recipe for culinary excellence with its acclaimed Miami Culinary Institute. Courses, programs and even the building are rooted in sustainability and eco-culinary approaches, offering students a chance to learn from the world’s top professional chefs. Offering high-quality and value-oriented tuition, MDC is the only higher education institution in the region offering an Associate in Science in Culinary Arts and the only public option.

MDC kicks off several of its programs with similar events each year. New students in its Honors College receive pins and in its Physician Assistant Studies program receive their white medical coats when they first start. The events mark a new beginning for many students who are the first in their families to obtain college degrees or who are embarking on new careers.
