Miami Dade College Partners with Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses to Create Jobs and Economic Growth in South Florida

Miami, September 9, 2013 - Miami Dade College(MDC) will celebrate the launch of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program in South Florida, an initiative that aims to help small business owners create jobs and strengthen the local economy. There will be a press conference to launch the initiative at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, in the Sklylight Room at MDC’s Freedom Tower. The event is invitation-only. Working media is welcome.  The college community, business, and elected leadership will also attend.  

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses is a $500 million investment to help small businesses in the United States create jobs and economic growth by providing entrepreneurs with a practical business education, access to capital and business support services, all at no cost to program participants. The program is operating fully in 9 sites including Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, Long Beach, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, and Salt Lake City, as well as 5 capital-only states including Kentucky, Montana, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington. South Florida is the next site for this impressive program with MDC running the program.

Consistent with MDC’s mission and its efforts to serve as the hub of entrepreneurial activity in the region, the 10,000 Small Businesses program will become a valuable resource in the community for small businesses and help create jobs. MDC will receive a five-year grant from Goldman Sachs to run and support this program, which will be offered through MDC’s School of Business in collaboration with the School of Continuing Education and Professional Development. MDC will serve about 80 small business owners in the first year.
