Miami Dade College North Campus to Celebrate Annual Children’s Holiday Dec. 14

N Holiday L

Miami, November 26, 2013 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will transform itself into a winter wonderland once again much to the delight of thousands of children and adults as it celebrates the Children’s Holiday at North on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This annual event will offer a sprinkling of joy with exhibits, a snow village, and a 12-foot mountain of snow where kids will be able to slide down in tubes. There will also be live performances with Lilo and Stitch and hula-fire dancers, Hip Hop Kidz, the South Florida Youth Symphony, belly dancers, Miami Classic Ballet, jazz bands and orchestras from middle and high schools.

Santa and his elves will arrive by helicopter at 11 a.m. The guest of honor and Mrs. Claus will ride a horse-drawn carriage in a parade that will feature marching bands and popular characters. Children will be able to meet and greet Saint Nick by his chimney, have their picture taken, and drop their letters of wishes in his mailbox.

Other highlights include a Youth in Agriculture Pavilion featuring wild animal shows, a petting zoo, and games; an arts and crafts pavilion; a holidays-around-the-world center showcasing global holiday customs and traditions; Elsie’s Greenshop – where kids will learn to go green this season - from ornaments to cards; and more than 50 exhibits including Jungle Island, Little Hands for Human Rights, the Florida Marlins, the Miami Dolphins, Miami Children’s Museum, Build-A-Bear, and Chuck E. Cheeses, among others. Ponies, train rides, bounce houses, rock-climbing walls, Air-K9 dog shows, clowns, face-painting, and technology mobiles with games. This year will also feature the new M-DCPS Magnet School Corner and a comprehensive health and wellness pavilion.

Attendees will be able to purchase all types of cuisine at the courtyard. Families are encouraged to contribute one toy toward the toy drive that will be donated to needy children in the community.

"North Campus' spirit of community and giving is manifested in the presentation of our annual Children's Holiday at North event,” said Malou C. Harrison, interim North Campus president. “Our Campus family of students, faculty, and staff welcomes children and their families for a fun-filled, enriching day...Happy Holidays!"
