Miami Dade College’s Koubek Center Announces April Activities


Miami, April 1, 2014 - Art lovers, film connoisseurs, and wordsmiths will be delighted with this month’s cultural line-up at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Koubek Center.

Among the activities offered are the following:


Saturday, April 5, 7 p.m.:Abraham & Sarah The Musical, directed by Cathy Ellis. A musical film based on the Biblical figures. Tickets: $15 general admission; $10 students, seniors, MDC employees, Tower Theater and Film Society members; $8 groups (10 person minimum)

Wednesday, April 9, 6:15 p.m.: Fiction Workshops, presented with Suburbano Ediciones. These take place every Wednesday for the flowing eight weeks. In Spanish. Cost: $9.99 per workshop for all eight, or $15 per individual workshop.

Saturday, April 12, 7 p.m.:The Namesake. Film adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel of the same name. This event is part of The Center for Literature & Theatre @ MDC’s The Big Read. Cost: Free.

Sunday, April 13, 3 p.m.:Pianist Martha Marchena in Concert. Tickets: $ 25 general admission; $20 students and seniors.

Wednesday, April 23, 7 p.m.:Celebrate World Book Days with “Un Grito de Libertad”, a documentary by Arturo Morell about the transformative power of Don Quixote in Mexican prisons. Co-presented with Fundación Voz de Libertad, in Spanish. Cost: Free.

Thursday, April 24, 5 p.m.: Celebrate World Book Days with this continuous reading of Don Quixote. Co-presented with the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, in Spanish. Cost: Free.

Wednesday, April 30, 7 p.m.: Poetry reading by Cuban writers Chely Lima, Manuel López and Juan Carlos Valls, in honor of National Poetry Month. Co-presented with Project Zu, in Spanish. Cost: Free.
